Miserable Boxing Day for the Moles

By David Morgan

Molesey 0-3 Dulwich Hamlet

                                       Dul: Beveney '18, '53 , Nugent '89

Molesey returned to usual service on Boxing Day as a rampant Dulwich Hamlet side came to Walton Road and left with three goals and three points.

Molesey were disappointed to find themselves still bottom after beating Croydon Athletic, news from other grounds showed that Eastbourne also won their game 3-2, this meant Molesey are still battling for their lives.

Molesey never looked comfortable against Dulwich however, a number of early defensive mistakes was enough to make players and supporters nervous.

Dulwich didn't take long to capitalise on one of these defensive slips to take an early lead. Dulwich won themselves a corner after Andy Davidson tackled a Dulwich striker in the box. From this corner, the ball was swung in and a very free and easy header was presented to the impressive Beveney and he duly powered is header into a free goal.

Just four minutes later Dulwich flashed a second cross through the box, this time however the Moles were lucky and the ball eluded the two strikers sliding in at the back post.

Molesey dominated the end of the first half and put some considerable pressure on the Dulwich backline. The Moles created a few chances, the pick of the bunch being a Luke Edghill pull back before Grant Keywood blasted his shot over from 8 yards when it would have been easier to score, but with a little bit of composure the Molesey fans would have seen the Moles going into half-time level instead of a goal behind.

Molesey kicked off the second half and Dulwich resumed the ascendancy. Molesey again conceded within 10 minutes after half time. The Moles backline completely switched off allowing one Dulwich midfielder time to run all the way through the box to the goal line before pulling his pass back and allowing Beveney to stab home from close range.

At 2-0 Molesey completely lost all composure and a brawl broke out between opposing players and coaches leading too several Molesey players and coaches having to be pulled back by other members of the Molesey squad. A very embarrasing incident for all concerned.

The game was the complete opposite of Saturdays game with Molesey looking like a disorganised rabble, rather than the solid unit we saw against Croydon.

Dulwich Hamlet scored one more goal a minute from the end of the game to round off Moleseys misery. Nugent hit a hopefull long shot from 25 yards which bobbled under the Molesey 'keeper Jon Ashwood, wo may feel he should have done better with the effort.

A thourghly depressing day for Molesey who will be hoping for a lot better against Whyteleafe on Saturday.
