Molesey made the long trip across Kent to face the side they have enjoyed good fortune against in the past, Ashford Town
In the end though a nervous Molesey display meant they left the very boggy Homelands with nothing for their efforts.
The game started well enough for Molesey with debutant Trevor Robinson having a long range effort saved by Ashford 'keeper Jamie Riley. The new midfielder was running the show in the centre, however like most of the games this season luck wasn't on the Moles side and he was forced off through injury in the 20th minute to be replaced by Adrian Fox.
Only a few minutes after this forced change central defender Jon Boswell found himself out of position and out-paced by Ashford Town's Jones, who pulled the ball back to the edge of the penalty box for Jimmy Bottle who was on hand to fire it past Jon Ashwood at his near post abeit yet another deflection.
The rest of the half passed without incident, except for an Adrian Fox header that went narrowly over from a corner.
Ashford went straight at Molesey from the start of the second half and were immediately rewarded with a header from the unmarked Ex-Dover Mark Lovell which found its way over the arching Ashwood to double Ashfords lead.
Molesey rarely threatened at all in the second half, although they did have an Adrian Allen effort well saved from close range by Riley, when he was put through however, his attempted chip over the oncoming Riley appeared to be the wrong decision when a forceful shot perhaps would have been a better considering the boggy conditions.
Again it was poor defending when Ashford scored a third goal on 68 minutes when Paul Jones fired the ball past Jon Ashwood to end any hope of a revival.
The Moles were then made to play out the rest of the game without any penetration, as they lose further ground on their relegation rivals.
