Moles fought the law... And the law won

Molesey 1-5 Metropolitan Police

                                Moles: Fowler '42    Met:Stevens '7, '44, '95 Cobden '24 Sodje '73

Molesey found themselves with their first game in a long while and it would prove to be a disappointing experience for the team, management and supporters. Indeed the result made Moles boss, Steve Webb "Furious."

It was a very wet and windy day for the two halves of Molesey to meet on, and it would make the football a largely uninspiriring affair. This however seemed to affect Molesey more than the away side, and Molesey spent most of the game chasing the ball.

The Met Police kicked off the first half and quickly got into their stride against a lethargic home side. Indeed it only took 7 minutes for the Met Police to open the scoring, Matt Jordan swiped at an attempted clearance and the ball fell to Stevens in the Molesey penalty area. With little time to react Jon Ashwood, returing in the Molesey goal, just watched as the ball bobbled past him into the bottom corner.

The match then bacame very stale, neither side gaining any clear advantage. That was until the 24th minute, Met Police got only their second chance of the game. Lively Met Police winger Meikle put a cross into the Moles area and at the backpost ahead of any defender was full-back Cobden.

This second goal seemed to wake the Moles up a little bit and seemed to find a little bit of possesion, A Luke Edghill cross flying just over Matt Fowlers head and easily into the Met Police 'keepers hands. However Met Police also had chances and defender Sutherland managed to somehow miss a free header.

The Moles, excellantly, made the breakthrough in the 42nd minute. A Tommy Moorhouse corner for the Met was taken shot. But Antony Gale managed to rob posession on the edge of the box, he quickly played the ball out to Luke Edghillwho charged forward down the wing. He delivered an excellant cross on to the penalty spot and Matt Fowler was the striker on hand to head past a flailing 'keeper.

Molesey must have thought this was a lifeline going in to half-time, they were wrong. Met Police took their centre and went forward, massive striker Sodje managed to lob an on-rushing Jon Ashwood and although his shot was dropping wide, Stevens was the first to react and tapped the ball over the line.

The second half began and Molesey looked to get forward more with the introduction of James Mepham, the striker who was returning from injury almost made an immediate impact as he slid the ball just wide of the post.

If Molesey fans thought this was the start of a turn around they were, again, mistaken. Just four minutes after that chance there was a goal mouth scramble which was turned over the line by the powerful front man Sodje.

The match was over from that point and just to ram the point home, Matt Fowler gave the ball away cheaply in his own area and Stevens completed his hat-trick with an easy effort past the 'keeper

Molesey had completely collapsed by this point and were arguing with each other. Steve Webb, Pete Lelliot and the rest of the management team didn't look at all happy after the final whistle as Molesey trooped off the pitch.
