Molesey 2-0 Burnham

Wales '45 , Caughter '58

Molesey enjoyed a good, dominating performance against a lively Barnham side.

On a hot and humid day, the Molesey side gave their supporters and management something to cheer about as they gave a very good performance.

Where Chris Wales proved the difference maker. The match started very evenly with a midfield battle starting for the opening few minutes before Molesey took hold of the game and began trying to make things happen.

Molesey were looking for the breakthrough as early as the 5th minute when good work from Haniff and Lampard set up a cross for Lampard which Molesey failed to get on the end of.

Molesey looked good from set pieces as well with plenty of opportunities in the first few minutes with a series of corners which Molesey couldn't finish.

Molesey then had two 1-on-1 chances has Haniff and Mepham both found themselves running through only a few minutes apart, however Haniff fired over and Mepham lobbed narrowly wide.

Burnham weren't out of the game though as they also had chances, the best of which was a powerful shot hitting the woodwork leaving Windegaard helpless. Molesey made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time when Mepham held the ball up well leading to a corner which was swung in, the 'keeper misjudged it allowing a small scramble and Chris Wales forcing the ball over the line.

Molesey rang the changes at half time with three substitutions; Mepham, Haniff and O'Brien were replaced by Edghill, Darko and Sacha. This had a positive impact on the Molesey team as they dominated possesion and territory for large periods.

Molesey took charge of the game and forced even more saves from a busy Barnham defence. One such corner found the breakthrough when a corner whipped into the far post was controlled and slide home by Phil Caughter from Chris Wales shot.

Windegaard was called into action late on as Burnham put together a good team move which was  well saved by the Moles 'keeper with his legs.

All in all, Moles boss Steve Webb should be happy with his teams performance as the season begins next week when The Moles face Croydon Athletic at Molesey.
