Molesey 1-3 Worthing

Molesey met Worthing this Saturday on a very windy and cold day whereby, Worthing found a Molesey side very much in form. Molesey were going through a run of 5 games undefeated, and had played some tough games to get the points they had earned. Tuesday night Worthing had just killed off Walton & Hersham 3-1 (AET) in the FA Trophy replay at Stompond Lane, so it was two long trips from the coast in just a couple of days which may have caused some real trouble for our opponents.

Molesey had to make a few enforced changes from the match a week before; Steve Windergaard returned in goal after Jon Ashwood was ruled out by injury in training, Shane Franklin came in for Jon Boswell (suspended) after the former finished his suspension from last week.

The start of the game showed a very nervous Molesey backline struggling to deal with the onslaught of multiple Worthing attacks. Windergaard was forced to tip a couple of shots and free-kicks over the bar or around the posts.

Molesey did threaten occasionally early on though. Grant Keywood showed great technique by volleying just wide from a Ben Beswick cross and at one point Chico Kadzombe had to be forced off the ball by three Worthing defenders before he could get his shot away.
But then Molesey were rocked in the 26th minute when Worthing took a long throw into the Molesey box, which caused some mayhem and although just in front of Windergaard, the Molesey shot-stopper couldn't stop Sam Gorgan from prodding the ball just over the line.

Molesey however didn't have much time to think about being 1-0 down when the visitors doubled their lead. In the 35th minute Steve Windergaard charged towards a bouncing ball on the edge of the box, but instead of getting the ball clear he collided with Phil Caughter, then after many attempts to clear the ball properly, a sloppy pass from Kadzombe saw Dean Lovegrove charged forward who chipped it over the oncoming Molesey 'keeper.

Molesey showed a resilient side to their game now, and on the stroke of half-time Molesey put together a sublime passing move which swept across the pitch and all the way up from the defence. After being informed by the Worthing tactician,   it had already been 25 passes when Ben Beswick picked up the ball wide and put a great low cross into the six-yard box which Tony Gale stuck into the goal. His first since his move to Molesey from Walton Casuals
At half-time Molesey made a change; Chico Kadzombe made way for Matt Fowler.

If Moleseys fans were hoping that the home side would come out a different side after their disappointing first half, they were to be disappointed. After just 5 minutes of the second half, Sam Gorgan picked up possesion on the edge of the box, he was allowed too much time and space and struck a shot into the top left hand corner (from windergaards point of view), which Windergaard could only get fingertips to.

Molesey made a few more changes by going three at the back therefore, both Kieron Critchlow and Stefan O'Brien being brought on for Julian Phillips and Matt Jordan respectively. With 20 minutes left Molesey played some delightful football by enforcing most of the possession in the Worthing half. Nevertheless, with the Worthing defence standing firm Molesey didn't cause too many problems after Luke Edghill forced one good save from Rikki Banks in the Worthing goal, and Kieron Critchlow made Worthings defence nervous for the last few minutes, but they were able to see out the game and complete the victory.
